Let's Raise Awareness For Tourette's!

May 15th to June 15th 2025 marks Tourette's Awareness Month. This month is dedicated to raising awareness and educating people about Tourette's Syndrome (TS).

What is Tourette's Syndrome?

TS is a neurological disorder that can cause repetitive movements or unwanted sounds (tics) that can't be controlled. For example, you could repeatedly blink your eyes, shrug your shoulders or blurt out unusual sounds or offensive words.

The Touratte's Rat Sticker - Tourette's Syndrome on a red, blue and green background with colouring pencils and red stripe candy bag. The sticker features two rats, one grey rat on the left swearing in a speech bubble and one white rat with its eyes shut, across the middle in black text reads 'touratte's'. The hand drawn design is raising awareness for tourette's syndrome and tics.

The main aim of the 2025 Tourette's Awareness Month campaign is to educate, challenge any misconceptions and to encourage a more inclusive society.

  • Raising Awareness: This time allows for a space to discuss and educate the public about the symptoms and the challenges faced with the condition
  • Challenging Misconceptions: Unfortunately a lot of people believe the stereotypes surrounding TS, often believing the condition to only be about swearing or bad behaviour. By educating and disputing these claims we can challenge these misconceptions.
  • Fostering Inclusion: By having more discussions, raising awareness and understanding we can create a more inclusive society.
  • Support & Advocacy: It's also a time for people and their friends/family affected by TS to receive support.
  • Engaging Activities: Many organisations and individuals will be participating in Tourette's Awareness Month by sharing information, using social media to spread the message and creating local events. There is no limit!

The theme for 2025 is #Misunderstood from the UK charity Tourettes Action UK.

The creative campaign for this year is a combined effort with a creative agency AML and a production company, The Attic. The two agencies are creating a deeply moving short film about a person called Grace, who lives with TS, and a choir of others with the condition. They team up to perform a reinterpretation of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by Nina Simone which brings the message to life with music, emotion and the collective shared experience.

The collaborative short film aims to give watchers a view into the real and everyday challenges that are faced when you have Tourettes. From dealing with public reactions and constantly explaining their tics. The film ends with a powerful call to action for empathy, connection and change.

The hand drawn design is raising awareness for tics and tourettes.
